At Fontanarossa you do not lose time on the runway. You lose it earlier: on the ring-road exit, looking for an entrance, unloading suitcases and waiting for a transfer that “was supposed to be included”. Fast Parking is at Via Brucoli 2, about 500 metres from the terminals. That distance only counts if you know how to get there, how the shuttle works and how much buffer to leave against check-in — not against take-off time.

Where time is lost at Fontanarossa
People leaving Catania underestimate three stretches of the journey, not the flight.
The first is access. Vincenzo Bellini Airport sits on the ring road: in the low-cost departure banks — often 5:30–8:00 and 17:00–20:00 — the queue is not “at the airport”, it is before the terminal. Anyone hunting for an official space at the last minute then adds the loop around P1, P3, P4 and P6 and the walk with luggage.
The second is unloading. A family with two hold suitcases does not “lose a 3-minute shuttle ride”: they lose the minutes when nobody helps load, the meeting point is unclear and they walk between short-stay islands.
The third is the return. After a night flight the information you need is not “we are close”: it is a number to call, a reception that is open and the car already waiting. Fast Parking has a specific procedure for that, described below — different from “we will pick you up at some point”.
How to get to Via Brucoli 2
Do not set the sat-nav to a generic “Catania airport”. Set Via Brucoli 2, 95121 Catania. The route we use for anyone coming off the ring road is this:
- leave the tangenziale and come down the overpass to the roundabout with the barracks on the right;
- at that roundabout turn left and continue along the tree-lined avenue;
- at the next roundabout, the one with the large red aeroplane, turn right;
- pass Bar Parisi and after about 150 metres you find the Fast Parking entrance on the right.
If you arrive at night or for a dawn flight, that route keeps you out of the terminal drop-off flow and away from one-way barriers. The facility is open 24 hours a day, every day: there is no closing time to hit, only your check-in time.
On the way out: booking, bay, luggage, shuttle
The shuttle is included in the stay and reserved for customers with a booking. It is not a public bus and it is not a service sold separately at the airport.
The actual sequence:
- you book online and receive a booking number by email;
- at reception you show that number: a member of staff points you to your space;
- you leave the car; if you chose guarded parking with key handover, the vehicle is parked in the assigned area;
- staff help you unload the suitcases and load them onto the shuttle;
- before you board you can use luggage wrapping and weighing, useful if you fly with a low-cost airline and do not want to discover extra weight at the desk;
- the shuttle drops you at the departure terminal. The transfer covers about 500 metres; in normal conditions it takes a few minutes, not an out-of-town ride.
What changes the departure is not the slogan “free shuttle”. It is that luggage handling and the bay assignment happen at the facility, not on the departures kerb in a double-parked line.
On the way back: yellow receipt and a call to reception
At check-in you are given a yellow receipt with the number to call. Do not leave it in the car and do not rely only on an email on a dying phone.
After you collect your bags from the belt:
- call reception — open 24/7, 365 days a year — on the number printed on the receipt, or +39 348 1600328;
- the shuttle comes to pick you up at the airport;
- at the facility the car is already ready: you do not hunt for it on the forecourt.
If the flight is delayed, tell them as soon as you know the new time. A 24/7 reception can absorb a delay; a site that “closes around midnight” cannot. That is the same test as “changes and cancellation” in the how-to-choose guide.
How much buffer to leave, by type of flight
A transfer of a few minutes does not replace check-in. Count backwards from desk-closing time, not from take-off.

These are not opening hours — Fast Parking is 24/7 — they are your times against the flight. If you are travelling with children, a pushchair or more than two hold suitcases, use the next row down, not the most optimistic one.
When the shuttle is enough and when you need valet
The shuttle is the right tool if you drive to the facility, leave the car and want to be taken to the terminal with the bags already loaded. That is the standard flow from Via Brucoli 2.
Car valet is a different product: a driver meets you at the airport entrance, unloads the luggage and collects the car. It makes sense if you are already in the terminal flow, if you are running late, or if you do not want the stop at the facility on the way out.
Do not compare them on the same daily rate without looking at the handover point. One starts at Via Brucoli. The other starts at the airport doors. They are two ways of using the same 500 metres.
The same applies to the space itself: if you leave the car for a week in July, consider a covered space before you worry about the shuttle. Sun and, in some periods, ash from Etna are not fixed by a shorter transfer.
Practical questions
Does the shuttle run to a fixed timetable?
No. It is not a scheduled public service. It is a transfer reserved for booked customers, running 24/7. Outbound it starts when you have left the car and loaded the bags; inbound it starts when you call reception after collecting luggage.
Do I need to call on the way out as well?
No. Outbound you arrive at Via Brucoli 2 with your booking number. The call is for the return, on the number printed on the yellow receipt.
Can I turn up without a booking?
The shuttle is reserved for customers with a booked stay. In high season arriving without a space puts back into play the very minutes you wanted to save. Book on your travel dates when you buy the flight.
How long is the ride, in exact minutes?
The facility is about 500 metres from the terminals. In normal conditions the transfer takes a few minutes. The real variable is not the kilometre: it is the wait if everyone arrives on the same bank of flights. That is why the buffer is calculated against check-in, not against the length of the ride.
What if I land after midnight?
Reception and the shuttle stay open. You still call after collecting your bags. Do not wait to “see if someone comes past”: the return is on request.
